William "Bill" C. Brooks, Jr. of Dover, DE, age 78, passed away Sunday, March 19, 2017. He was born on March 20, 1938 to the late William C. Brooks, Sr. and Madge Sybil (Steele) Brooks.
Bill was born and raised in Bluefield, WV. He married Ava R. Evans on November 2, 1955 and moved to Wilmington, DE. Upon moving to Delaware, Bill worked for Electric Hose. He then went on to work for Diamond Shamrock in Delaware City as an electrician for 28 years before retiring. Bill was remarried in May 2015 to Vernardean Beckner of Galax, VA. They moved back to Delaware in December of 2016.
Bill was a southern gentleman, devoted husband, father and grandfather. He enjoyed playing golf, tinkering with cars, camping and traveling in his motorhome. Bill was a loyal friend and hard worker. His greatest joy came from his family as his children and grandchildren where everything to him.
Bill is survived by his loving wife of one year and nine months, Vernardean Brooks, son, William "Billy" C. Brooks III and his wife, Jennifer of Perryville, MD, daughter, Beverly Murphy of Clayton, DE, six grandchildren: William Corbin Brooks IV, Jessica Lee Walters, Chelsea Rae Brooks, Joshua Michael Murphy, Hanna Downes and Collin Porter Brooks; seven great grandchildren: Raylynne Kay Walters, Katelyn Elizabeth Brooks, Nicholas Cole Walters, Avery Corbin Brooks, Hayden Christopher Brooks, Emma Rae Caval and Dallas Keegan Brooks; sister, Sybil St. Clair, and brother, Dave Brooks. In addition to his parents, Bill is preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Ava R. Brooks.
A memorial service in Bill's honor will be held at 11AM on Saturday, March 25, 2017 at R.T. Foard & Jones Funeral Home, 122 W. Main St., Newark, DE 19711. Family and friends may begin visiting at 10AM. Burial will follow at Cherry Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made payable to "St. Jude Children's Research Hospital" or "Cancer Research Foundation" and sent in care of the funeral home.
