Wallace Peery Behnke, age 87 of Newark, DE passed away on April 23, 2016. He was born on March 25, 1929 in Trenton, MO to the late, Wallace Kessler Behnke and Pauline (Hill) Behnke.

Wallace served in the United States Navy during the Korean War. He spent nearly forty years at DuPont working on research and development of Thermoman and Nomex. He was involved in private consulting work during retirement and was an adjunct professor of textile engineering at North Carolina State University. Wallace was an avid gardener and enjoyed walking. He was truly a "real renaissance man, he could do just about anything."

Wallace is survived by his loving wife of sixty years, Elizabeth "Libby"; sons, Alan Peery Behnke and his wife, Donna of Emmaus, PA, Marc Shelton Behnke and his wife Pat of Randolph, NJ, Eric Duane Behnke and his wife, Doris of Elkton, MD, and Scot David Behnke and his wife, Diane of Newark, DE; eleven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his brother, William Behnke; and sister, Helen Williams.

A memorial service will be held, Saturday, April 30, 2016 at 11:00 AM at Newark United Methodist Church, 69 E. Main Street, Newark, DE 19711, where family and friends may visit beginning at 10:00 AM. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made payable to, "Newark United Methodist Church - Renewing Our Foundation" and sent in care of R.T.
