Stella (Maksyn) Blendy, 94, died peacefully at ST. Francis Country House in Darby, PA on Sunday February 23, 2014.
Stella was born on January 7, 1920 in Philadelphia, PA to the late Michael and Anna (Baran) Maksyn. The family moved to the Ukrainian Community in Chesapeake City in 1922, here Stella was raised with her sisters Mary Maksyn Kataryna, Pauline Telenko, Mildred Hotra and Helen Balcavage who still survives. Stella married Nick Blendy on August 7, 1949 and settled in Southwest Philadelphia and raised her children with the Ukrainian heritage in mind, belonging to Protection of B.V.M. Ukrainian Catholic Church where she was very active. She was also very family oriented with many trips to Chesapeake City to keep up with family and friends. In her younger days in Maryland, Stella was employed at Kresge in Elkton.
Stella was predeceased by her husband Nick and her dear daughter Ann Maxine Tomasic. Surviving are 2 sons, Nicholas S. Blendy (Debbie Poore) of Chesapeake City, MD and William M. Blendy (Barbara) of Royersford, PA; 4 grandsons, Nicholas T.R. Blendy, Christopher Blendy (Lauren), Sean Blendy, and Matthew Tomasic; also a great granddaughter Emma Rose Blendy, a sister Helen Balcavage; sister-in-law Barbara Blendy and son-in-law Jack Tomasic.
A visitation will be held from 9:00 – 10:30 a.m. on Saturday March 1, 2014 at R.T. Foard Funeral Home, P.A., 318 George St., Chesapeake City, MD 21915. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Saturday at St. Basil Ukrainian Catholic Church. Interment will follow at St. Rose of Lima Cemetery in Chesapeake City.
