Obituary

Shannon Kathleen Smyth, "Kathy", age 84 of Chesapeake City, MD passed away on April 8, 2017. She was born on April 21, 1932 in Rahway, NJ to the late Henry Hughey Fox and Esther Pearl (Copenhaver) Fox.

Kathy worked as a school aide at Paradise Knoll School in Newfoundland, NJ. She was a member of Echo Lake Baptist Church in West Milford, NJ. She worked as a CNA at Evergreen Center in Wilmington, DE. She also belonged to the Persimmon Creek Swim Club in Newark, DE. Kathy was proud of her neighborhood and helped establish the Neighborhood Watch in Maple Square Mobile Park in Newark, DE. Kathy was very active in the lives of her grandchildren. She enjoyed gardening and birdwatching. She was an avid reader and enjoyed playing canasta. Kathy also loved going to the beach whether it was in New Jersey or Delaware. Once she moved to Maryland, Kathy attended First Presbyterian Church of Chesapeake City, MD where she was active with their events.

Kathy is survived by her son, Kevin Dale Smyth and his wife, Loud of Bear, DE; daughters: Sharron Lynn Taylor and her husband, Allan of Chesapeake City, MD and Karenrae Vanderslice and her husband, Michael of Elsinboro, NJ; six grandchildren: Jason Burns, Travis Post, Amber Taylor, Staci Troutman, Allyson Cybak, and Michal Vanderslice; and four great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her husband, William Riley Smyth; brother, Henry Hughey Fox, Jr.; and grandson, Jeremey Post.

A celebration of Kathy's life will be held on Thursday, April 13, 2017 at 10:30AM at R.T. Foard Funeral Home, P.A., 259 East Main Street, Elkton, MD 21921. A visitation will be held one hour prior beginning at 9:30AM where family and friends are welcome to attend. Burial will be held privately. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made payable to the "First Presbyterian Church of Chesapeake City, MD" and sent in care of the funeral home.
