Obituary

Robert Franklin Geesaman, age 92, of Newark, DE died on June 7, 2017. He was born in Rouzerville, Pennsylvania on Oct 19, 1924 and moved to Newark, Delaware at the age of 3 with his parents to his grandfather's farm (now Chestnut Hill Estates). He attended elementary school in a one room school house in Ogletown, DE. Bob graduated from Newark High School in 1943 and was immediately drafted into service for his country in the U.S. Army 290th Combat Engineers serving in Germany and Austria in World War II and involved in the release of one of the death camps in Austria.

After returning from war, Bob owned and operated R.F. Geesaman Electrical Contracting for 52 years and was a member of the White Clay Kiwanis Club. A member of White Clay Creek Presbyterian Church since 1949, he served as an Elder and was involved in many other aspects of the church. He also coached girls' softball for 20 years.

Bob was a very loving and generous person who loved to talk and tell his stories to anyone who would listen. He was very proud of his vegetable garden which he shared with neighbors and friends. Among Bob's many passions were his many beloved dogs, Philadelphia sports teams, University of Delaware Football, and his model train set, which took up his entire basement.

He was predeceased by his parents, Violet and Arthur Geesaman, his beloved wife of 49 years, Joyce Buckingham Geesaman, his sister, Elizabeth Pasco and his brother, Arthur Geesaman.

He is survived by his wife, Joan Hougentogler Geesaman, daughters Ellen Geesaman Efta (Steve) and Meg Geesaman Pollard; Granddaughters Lindsey Pollard (fiancé, John Sandlin) and Morgan Pollard; Stepchildren, Rodney Hougentogler (Sandy), Beverly Hardy (Bob), Stephen Hougentogler (SueAnn) and Scott Hougentogler; Step grandchildren Jeffrey Hougentogler (Jody), Jill Cilmi (Tom), Caroline DeBlasio (Michael), Matthew Watson (Debbie), Daniel Hougentogler (Laura), Lindsey Hardy, Rachael Hougentogler, Kelsey Price, Rebecca Price, Christopher Hougentogler; Great grandchildren Ben, Jasmine, Kassity, Sarah, Natalie, Zachary and Ashley.

A visitation will be held on Monday, June 12, 2017 from 6:00-8:00 pm at R.T. Foard & Jones, Inc., 122 W. Main Street, Newark, DE 19711. A celebration of his life will be held on Tuesday, June 13, 2017 at 11:00 am at White Clay Presbyterian Church, 15 Polly Drummond Hill Road, Newark, DE 19711. Family and friends may attend a visitation beginning at 10:00 am. Burial will be at Ebenezer United Methodist Church, 525 Polly Drummond Hill Road, Newark, DE 19711. In lieu of flowers, contribution checks may be made payable to, "White Clay Creek Cemetery Association" and sent in care of the funeral home.
