Richard E. Ward, 58, of Elkton, MD, passed away March 28, 2012 after a brief illness.

Born in Washington, DC on May 7, 1953, Richard was the son of the late Richard Ward and Oma Fay Cheek Mecke. He was a graduate of the Philadelphia State School for the Deaf. Richard was an outstanding handyman who with even limited resources could fix just about anything. He took a lot of pride in his work and was a very dedicated tradesman. He had a profound curiosity in anything electrical and his favorite hobby was building circuit boards. He was a member of the Deaf Club and enjoyed bowling.

He is survived by his sister Rebecca Ledford and her husband Tom of Broad Run, VA; niece Andrea Masten and her husband Robert of Dover, DE; grand niece Madison Masten of Dover; and cousins Bane Cheek and Dana Del Colle of Winterhaven, FL. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his stepfather Charles Mecke, his sister Sheryl Ward and his grandparents Bane and Geneva Cheek.

Graveside services will be at Mt Zion Methodist Church Cemetery in Peach Bottom PA on Friday April 6, 2012 at 3:00 p.m.
