Obituary

Raymond S. Kennard (Bud), age 93 of Newark, DE passed away at his home of 55 years on December 1, 2019 surrounded by his family. He was born on September 10, 1926 at home in Newark, DE to the late Charles E. and Hazel Kennedy Kennard.

After graduating from Newark High School in 1944 Bud joined the US Navy and served in the Pacific Theater. Upon returning home, he attended the University of Delaware and received his degree in Civil Engineering. He met the love of his life, Ann Koehler, at the hospital where she was his mother's nurse. Ann and Bud married in 1949 and soon started their family.

Bud worked for the DuPont company for 40 years and was an active member of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church. Ann and Bud enjoyed traveling the quiet back roads of Lancaster County, PA, Europe and taking trips to Florida to visit family. Bud enjoyed reading, working in his yard and wood shop (he was well known for the furniture and clocks he made for family and friends). Bud and Ann especially enjoyed doing the daily crossword puzzle together. Above all, he enjoyed time spent with his family.

Bud is survived by his children: Christine Hancock (Doug) of Newark, DE, Carol Missimer (Brad) of Cocoa, FL, and Mark Kennard of Kennett Square, PA; three grandchildren: Kara Kennard of Nashville, TN, Devon Sasarita (Spencer)of Nashville, TN (and their mother Nancy Boyd of Spencer, NC), Brent Hancock ( fiancé Katlyn Hicks)of Newark, DE; one great grandson, Jonathan Hancock of Newark, DE: niece and caregiver Jane Koehler of Newark, DE. The family would also like to acknowledge a special family friend Susan Richardson. We would like to express our gratitude for the wonderful care he received from friends and caregivers, Sharon, Diana, Kevin, Carl, Scott and Janice.

He was predeceased in death by his wife Ann on 9/1/18 a few days short of their 69th wedding anniversary. His brothers Robert and Roger also predeceased him.

A Celebration of Bud's life will be held on Monday, December 23,2019 at 12 noon at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 701 South College Avenue, Newark, DE 19713. Burial will be held privately at Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery at the convenience of the family. In Bud's honor memorial contributions may be made payable to "Sunday Breakfast Mission" and sent in care of R.T. Foard & Jones, Inc., 122 West Main Street, Newark, DE 19711.
