Obituary

Patrick Timothy McCartan died peacefully at home on May 11th, 2018 in Rising Sun, MD at the age of 69, as a result of Agent Orange-related cancers from his military service in Vietnam.

Patrick was born on July 11th, 1948 in Ryan, PA to John and Marie McCartan. He graduated from Grand Island High School, NY in 1966 and joined the Army, serving in the Vietnam War. After he left the military, he pursued a variety of careers and later reenlisted to serve in Korea. After completing his service, he became a nurse, eventually treating veterans at the Perry Point VA Hospital where he met his wife. He left the VA and spent the duration of his nursing career at Christiana Care Hospital as a neuro-critical care nurse and nursing informatics specialist. He earned his Master's degree in Community Health Nursing and a second Master's degree in Nursing Education.

Patrick was a witty, sarcastic, loving, caring, and selfless individual who loved his pups, Bo and Layla dearly. He cherished time spent with his family and at his vacation home in Cape Coral, Florida.

Patrick is survived by his wife, Lisa Stuart McCartan; son, Christopher McCartan (Michelle McCartan); three daughters: Brittany McCartan Williams (Dana Williams), Hannah McCartan (James Kelly), and Jena McCartan (Richard Dawson); four grandchildren: Brodie, Sally, Richie, and Remy; sister, Janet McCartan; mother-in-law, Betty Stuart; and several cousins including Kathleen Maugeri and Theresa Arsenault. He is preceded in death by his parents, John and Marie McCartan, and his sister, Mary Tyler.

The family would like to thank the nursing community that provided such compassionate and comforting care throughout his entire diagnosis and passing.
