On August 10, 2012, Lawrence Abbott, age 67, passed away peacefully at his home in Newark, Delaware.

Born in Salem, Indiana, he was the son of the late Luther and Helen Abbott. He was preceded in death by his brother, Wayne Abbott. He is survived by his brothers, Philip and Edward Abbott; his cousins, Bill and Don Abbott; his aunt, Betty Manley; his nephews, Wayne and Brian Abbott; and his nieces, Lisa Abbott, Brook Jones-Abbott and Summer Abbott.

Larry graduated from Newark High School where he excelled in gymnastics. He later served proudly in the Delaware National Guard. Larry then worked in the family shoe repair business; Abbott's Shoe Repair of 92 East Main Street in Newark, DE. He then ran the business after the passing of his father along with his brother, Philip Abbott and longtime employee and close family friend, Stanley Konkiel.

His hobbies included hunting and fishing with family and friends. He enjoyed offshore fishing abroad the A-Team as well as fresh water bass fishing in nearby Sunset Lake.

Larry was a well-known fixture on Main Street and could be often found at Klondike Kate's where he was an unofficial board member. Larry was known for his quick wit and upbeat attitude. He always had a twinkle in his eye and a smile on his face. He charmed and entertained us all with his storytelling.

Larry loved spending time with his 'grandchildren', Ethan, Luke and Kayla Abbott; children of nephew, Wayne, who was raised as his own son and Wayne's wife, Jennifer Abbott.

Services for Larry will be private. A memorial service will be announced at a future date. In lieu of flowers, donations in Larry's memory can be made to the Newark Anglers Association, c/o R.T. Foard and Jones, Inc., 122 W. Main St., Newark, DE 19711.
