Obituary

Kathryn I. Lutz, 86, of Newark, DE, passed away peacefully on October 17, 2016 at Millcroft Nursing Home, where she had resided since April. Born on July 8, 1930 in Chicago, IL, she was the daughter of the late Leonhard and Erna (Schnieder) Lutz.

Kay graduated from University of Wisconsin in June of 1952 with a Bachelor of Science in Physical Education. She moved to Delaware in 1958 and began teaching adult beginner swimming at the YMCA. She continued her career teaching Physical Education and Health at Newark High School. Kay went on to receive her Master's from University of Delaware in 1979. She retired in 1986. Kay will be remembered for her love of gardens, dogs, politics, and teaching. She mentored many types of students through the years that will remember her for her tenacity and fun nature.

Kay is survived by her sister-in-law, Barbara Lutz, of Montana; nieces: Kay Mitchell, Nancy Roe, both of Montana, and Sue Veal, of New Hampshire. She leaves many long term friends and colleagues to remember her. In addition to her parents, Kay is preceded in death by her brother, Bud, and sister, Juanita.

Kay's loved ones would like to thank the Millcroft staff at the first floor nurses' station, the therapists, both occupational and physical, the cafeteria staff, and all whom have made Kay's last few months as comfortable as possible – your services are greatly appreciated.

A celebration of Kay's life will be held from 6-8PM on November 7, 2016 at Newark Senior Center, 200 Whitechapel Drive, Newark, DE 19713. Any stories or memories of Kay are welcomed at www.rtfoard.com. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made payable to "Newark High School Alumni Association," "Planned Parenthood," "The Newark Senior Center," or "Delaware Humane Association" and sent in care of R.T.
