Obituary for Joyce Lee Diehl

September 22, 1929 - February 5, 2018
Newark, Delaware | Age 88

Joyce L. (Wollaston) Diehl passed away peacefully on February 5, 2018 after a brief illness. Joyce was born on September 22, 1929 and resided in the City of Newark her entire life. Her beginning years were on Wollaston Avenue.

Joyce is survived by her husband of 53 years, Roger Diehl. She is also survived by her sons: James L. Ford, III and is wife, Teresa of Lewes, DE and John W. Ford of Elkton, MD. Grandchildren: Jacob Ford of Lewes, DE and Maren Langford and her husband, Ryan of Ann Arbor, MI. Great grandchildren: Silas Langford and Reese Langford. Joyce is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Her parents were George Wesley and Frances Wollaston. Joyce was also predeceased by her five brothers, Fred, Bob, Charles, Dick and Jim.

Joyce attended Newark High School and the University of Delaware. She worked at Chrysler and as a school teacher before becoming a full time homemaker.
A love of laughter, jokes and stories embodied her full life. Joyce had a great sense of humor and always had her own way of making everyone smile. No family gathering was complete without her. With the ability to remember in extreme detail, one of her greatest gifts was sharing cherished memories with her family and friends. The sparkle in her eye and the ornery smile always made you wonder what was coming next. Even if you already heard the story.
Affectionately called "Leesie" by many loved ones, Joyce also had her own innovative names for many things. The Joyce-isms have already carried to two more generations.

A great and prolific writer of letters to her friends and family, Joyce added personal touches including special stamps, cute stickers to seal the envelope, pictures and articles. Getting a letter from Joyce was pure entertainment and the next best thing to being with her.

Joyce loved to play the piano and enjoyed old movies, the Phillies, Jeopardy and collecting decorative owls. She was creative and artistic, loved to play cards, board games and watch game shows.

Above all she loved her family and they will miss her heartwarming, loving ways each and every day.

A celebration of Joyce's life will be held at 11am on Monday, February 12, 2018 at R.T. Foard & Jones Funeral Home, 122 W.
