Joseph Zappo, Jr., age 83, of Chesapeake City, MD, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 18, 2014 at Season's Hospice at Christiana Care in Newark, DE.
He was born August 26, 1930 in Philadelphia, PA to the late Joseph, Sr., and Rosemarie (Cistone) Zappo.

Joe worked for DuPont for 34 years at various positions, with his last title the job he loved the most, safety manager at the Chestnut Run Site. His career gave him opportunities to travel the world, something he enjoyed very much, and he continued to travel the world in his retirement.

At home, Joe was a member of the Delaware National Guard, where he rose to the rank of Lt. Colonel. He was also a 32nd degree Mason and a member of the Hiram Lodge #25 in Newark, DE for 63 years. Joe had many hobbies over the years, photography, working his yard, but he was especially good at carving duck decoys and displayed his work at shows in the area, and even won several awards for his work. He worked as an instructor at the Cecil Senior Services where he coached those with chronic illnesses on how to adapt to their change in lifestyle, his knowledge drawn from his own experiences.

He is survived by his wife Arlene; daughter Rozie Zappo and companion Blamoh Doe; son Joseph Zappo III and wife Brenda; granddaughter Jennifer Whisler and husband John; grandson Nick Zappo and fiancé Heather, all of Newark, DE; stepson Andy Mitchell and wife Jamie and their children Logan and Olivia of Chesapeake City, MD.

As per Joe's wishes, all services will be private. To send condolences visit
