Obituary

John Robert Baynes, Sr., age 94 of Rising Sun, MD and Sarasota, Florida passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 24, 2018. Born July 3, 1924 in Buffalo, NY, John was the son of the late Charles and Florence (Mason) Baynes.

John was a proud veteran of the United States Air Force, serving in Europe during WWII. Following the war, John put himself through college where he earned his Master's degree from the New York State University in Buffalo, NY. In late 1959, John and his family moved to Cecil County, Maryland where they lived until his retirement. Upon relocating to Cecil County John was employed as a safety engineer with M & G Convoy and later with the Chrysler Corporation and the University of Delaware. John also owned the Green Barn and Industrial Motor Service in Newark, Delaware.

Upon retirement John and his wife Ann relocated to Sarasota, Florida where they have lived for the last thirty years. Not one to sit idle John enjoyed traveling, his family and socializing with friends. Throughout his adult life John enjoyed working and staying busy. He made many improvements to the houses they owned and also enjoyed helping family and friends with projects, big and small.

John's true passion was his family. He deeply loved his wife Ann and was very proud of his three sons and grandchildren. He was happiest when family and friends were at the house and he was cooking. He was a loving husband, wonderful father and grandfather and dear friend to many.

John is survived by his loving wife of 71 years, Antoinette (Miller) Baynes; three sons: John R. Baynes, Jr. and his wife Debbie; Keith A. Baynes and his wife Bonnie; and, Steven E. Baynes and his wife Ann. He is also survived by his seven grandchildren: Charles, Miller and his wife Shelby, Julia, Kevin, Brian, Emily and Melissa (and her son Derrick) and his cousin Maud Lyon. Including his parents, John was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Michelle Baynes and his two brothers.

A celebration of John's life will be held at a later date. The family requests that rather than sending flowers, you contribute to a charity of your choice in John's memory.
