Obituary

John "Johnny" H. Dolor, age 86, of Chesapeake City, MD passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loved ones on February 14, 2018. He was born in Philadelphia, PA to the late Eulalio and Violet Dolor.

John dedicated his life to the dredging industry and the expansion of critical water ways; he was always proud of the unique treasures that he dug up and was elated to share them with his friends and family. John's dredging career was extensive and even though he traveled the country, one of his proudest accomplishments was helping to dredge the C&D Canal which he called his home for more than 85 years.

When John was not traveling for work, he spent his free time on the local waterways waterskiing off the back of his Chris Craft boats. Through the years, he spent countless hours fishing and crabbing in Chesapeake City and Rock Hall, MD. John's love of the waterways and nature was instilled in his kids and will forever be cherished.

Upon retiring from the dredging industry in 1993, John began carving decorative waterfowl masterpieces and quickly emerged as one of the finest duck carvers on the Eastern Shore. His work was featured in local publications and highly sought after by collectors near and far. Each carving was meticulously hand-crafted with methodical precision and detail.

John is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Bette J. Dolor; his son, John E. Dolor and his wife, Shirley of Jarrettsville, MD; his two beloved granddaughters whom he treated and loved like his own daughters, Nikki Dolor-Donaldson, her husband, Joel and their children Brennan and Reagan; Rikki Dolor, her fiancé, Roger and daughter, Sydney Saienni. In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his daughter, Christine Moore, with whom he is now reunited.

A celebration of John's life will be held Sunday, February 25, 2018 from 2PM-4PM at 226 Murphy Dr., Middletown, DE 19709, approximately 15 minutes from Chesapeake City, MD.
