Obituary

John G. Lum, "Jack", age 80, a lifetime resident of Chesapeake City, MD, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 25, 2017 due to complications following heart surgery. Jack was born on December 29, 1936 to Melvin and Mary Evelyn Kirkpatrick Lum. He enjoyed playing sports as a young man and after finishing school he served in the United States Army as a Military Police Officer. Upon returning to Chesapeake City, he followed his father's footsteps and became a milk delivery driver working first for Losten's, then Pensupreme Dairy, and finally Hy-Point Dairy. Jack had friends in every corner of Cecil County because of his travels delivering milk. Following his retirement from the dairy business, Jack continued working as a school bus driver for several years and was popular among his student passengers.

Jack planted a large garden every year and also enjoyed training beagles for rabbit hunting. He was an avid bowler and golfer. Jack was proud to carry on a long family tradition of making Maryland beaten biscuits during the holidays. He was a 60 year member of the Volunteer Fire Company #1 of Chesapeake City, Inc. as well as an active member and Elder of the First Presbyterian Church of Chesapeake City.

Jack is survived by his wife, Barbara Ohrel Lum; daughter, Debra Gimmy (John); son, John Michael (Lynda); grandchildren: Kayla Kinadeter (Dirk), Brandon Lum, Kyle Gimmy, and Elayna Lum; brother, Franklin Lum (Bev); sister, Mary Porter (Tom); and sister-in-laws Doris Lum (Mel) and Sharon Lum (Pat).
