December 13, 1972 - March 3, 2017
North East, Maryland | Age 44
John Christopher Abel, 44, of North East, MD, passed away Friday, March 3, 2017 at Season's Hospice in Christiana Hospital, DE.
Chris was born in Havre de Grace, MD on December 13, 1972 and is the beloved son of Janice Eggers-Abel and John Abel IV.
Chris loved life with exuberance and joy. He freely gave love to all around him. He enjoyed going to school in Perryville in his younger days – school plays, Boy Scouts and bus rides. After graduating, he then joined the Activity Center at Bayside Community Network where he had many friends and good times. Of special enjoyment were those activities arranged by Sally and others in the Lindsey House – going to Elvis impersonator events, musicals at Cecil College, picnics at North East Park, live music in Elkton and dinner at local restaurants. Chris was a Special Olympian – bowling was his specialty. Saturday afternoons were Mom and Chris's special time – going for car rides, stopping for french fries and juice, then a final stop at Goods Produce Stand for the biggest and best watermelon selected especially by Jason for Chris. Sunday afternoon Dad and Chris explored far and wide, even going to Pea Patch Island. All the while, they listened to Chris's favorite country and western music.
Chris enjoyed good food, family dinners, birthday parties, Christmas Eve dinner at Backfin Blues, where the Chef always came out to greet him, summer pool parties at Aunt Lois's house, family vacation, attending Blue Rocks and Orioles baseball games, riding local trains and eating Becky's homemade cookies.
Chris is the brother of Rebecca Heaps (Earl), uncle to Gabrielle Heaps, great nephew of Rebecca Willey and Lucy Antrim, nephew of William Abel (deceased) and Lois Krewinghaus, first cousin to Sean Abel (Gina), Shannon Wood (Bryan), David Krewinghaus (Erin), and Laura Johnson (Peter). Other cousins include Pat Shires and Darlene Thomas.
Services honoring Chris will be held at 11AM on Thursday, March 9, 2017 at R.T. Foard Funeral Home, P.A., 111 S. Queen Street, Rising Sun, MD 21911, with a visitation beginning at 10AM. Burial will follow at Rosebank Cemetery, Calvert, MD. Memorial contributions may be made payable to "Maryland Special Olympics" and sent in care of the funeral home.
