Obituary

James L. Scotton of Newark, Delaware passed away on May 16, 2020 at the age of 90. He was the son of James Lester Scotton and Elizabeth Hudson Scotton.

He graduated from Newark High School in 1948 and the University of Delaware in 1952 with a degree in Business Administration and was a member of Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity. He joined the DuPont Company in the Treasurers Department where he held the position of supervision and management in Treasurer and C&D Department, retiring in 1992 after 40 years. In 1952, he also graduated from the U.S. Army Finance School at Fort Benjamin Harrison. He served at Fort Meade and in Geissen Germany. He advanced to Junior Warrant Officer in the 374th Finance Reserve Unit in Wilmington.

He enjoyed his walks along the Brandywine in Wilmington, White Clay Creek in Newark and Battery Park of New Castle along with long walks on the Beach of Long Beach Island, New Jersey, where the family shared a summer home in Spray Beach for many years. He traveled extensively throughout the United States with his wife, enjoying the scenery and beautiful sights. He also enjoyed his crossword puzzles.

He is preceded in death by his middle son, Stephen Taylor Scotton and grandson, Stephen Rollo Scotton. He is survived by his beloved wife of 67 years, Nancy Scotton; his son, James L. Scotton and wife Janice of Landenberg, PA;daughter, Christina Scotton Dhar of Newark, DE and daughter-in-law, Julie Scotton of Virginia. He is also survived by his six grandchildren: Melissa, Sara and Danny Scotton, Michael L. Peters and wife Gina, Stephanie Adams and husband Alex and Rachel Dhar. He was blessed and thrilled with his great grandchildren: Isabella and Michael Peters as well as Rhyan, Dean, Charlotte and Samantha Adams.
