Gerald I. Alcorn, 92, of Newark, DE, formerly of Neptune, NJ, passed away peacefully at his home the morning of May 30, 2012.

The eldest of seven brothers, Gerald was born in Greensburg, PA on January 17, 1920, the son of the late Eugene and Millie Balant Alcorn. From 1938-41, Gerald was a hydrolic press operator at the Pennsylvania Rubber Co. in Jeannette, PA. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps from 1941-45 and was part of the Normandy invasion force. After his discharge, he entered the University of Pittsburgh where he received his B.S. in electrical engineering. He then re-entered the military service, and served in the U.S. Army from 1949-53, and received the Korean Service Medal. After his service in the Army, he pursued a career in Civil Service as an electrical engineer at the U.S. Army Communications and Automatic Data Processing Laboratory (ECOM) Communications Security Technical Area and retired August 30, 1974. He was a talented woodworker, who also enjoyed dancing, music and model railroading.

He is survived by his daughter Mary Jo Grippo and her husband Kenneth of Elkton, MD and his brother Thomas L. Alcorn of Scottsdale, PA. He was preceded in death by his wife Dolores and his son, Thomas.

A graveside service will be held at 2 pm on June 1, 2012 at Monmouth Memorial Park in Tinton Falls, NJ.
