Thomas Ernest McNeill "Ernie", age 84, of Rising Sun, MD passed away on Tuesday, August 28, 2012 at Calvert Nursing Home surrounded by his loving family.

Ernie was born on November 21, 1927 in Bina, North Carolina, he was the son of the late Gaither and Verna Hartsoe McNeill. He attended Lansing High School and joined the U.S. Army shortly after graduation.

He retired from Mason Dixon Sand and Gravel/York Building Products in 1995 after 42 years of dedicated service. He was a fan of all sports and quite a ball player in his earlier days. He loved to fish and had a pretty good golf game. He was an avid bowler and loved a competitive game of horse shoes. He also enjoyed horse races, having owned several thoroughbred horses throughout the years. He loved to garden and was proud of his tomatoes. He mostly enjoyed spending time with his family.

He is survived by his loving wife Ruth. They shared over 62 years together. He is also survived by daughters, Donna McNeill Miles of Rising Sun, MD and Vicki McNeill Wicher and her husband Ric of Virginia Beach, VA; granddaughter, Leslie Miles Cooper of Rising Sun, MD and grandsons, Jeff Miles of Rising Sun, MD, Dylan, Zachary and Logan Wicher of Virginia Beach, VA and Mason Thomas McNeill of Rising Sun, MD; great-grandchildren, Madison and Marissa Cooper and CJ Miles of Rising Sun, MD; sister, Marie McMullen and her husband Bud of Rehoboth Beach, DE; brother-in-law, Bill Goss of North East, MD; sister-in-laws, Carol Michael of Elkton, MD and Kay Goss Smith and her husband Harry of Columbia, SC. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and friends.
In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his grandmother, Daisy Badger McNeill, youngest daughter, Stephanie McNeill, son-in-law Nick Miles, brother, Don McNeill and sisters, Doris McNeill Dickson and Helen McNeill Yearick.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, August 31, 2012 at Conowingo Baptist Church. Friends and family may visit one hour prior.
