Obituary for Delores (Meyers) Bogert

April 17, 2020
Port Deposit, Maryland

Delores C. Bogert (Meyers), age 71, of Port Deposit, MD passed away Friday, April 17, 2020 after a battle with cancer. Delores was an extraordinary wife, Mom, Grammy, sister, aunt and friend, instantly adored by all who met her.

Delores was born in Severn, MD to the late Henry and Girlene Meyers. Delores grew up in Rockaway Beach with her two older brothers Henry (Buddy) and James, who were rumored to chase her around the yard with squirrels.

Delores met her husband of over 51 years, Cornelius (Corky), in 1967 while both worked at NSA. Their first date at a party ended with a flat tire, but somehow Corky stuck around. Together, they had three lively and precocious children: her son Trevor Bogert, her daughter Stacy Bogert, and her daughter Ashleigh Hickman. Delores and Corky lived all over the East Coast before settling down in Baltimore, Maryland, prompting a young Trevor to say that his dad drove a UHaul Truck for a living.

Corky and Delores loved to travel together. Delores was a skilled crafts person - she knitted sweaters and blankets, made Raggedy Ann dolls and sock monkeys and Barbie wardrobes, and dreamed of a million other crafts to tackle when she retired. She liked games and puzzles - jigsaw or word - and usually won when we played cards. She was on board for impromptu road trips to the beach and sang along in the car. She made jam and canned vegetables; she was also a skilled baker and fan of The Great British Baking Show. She didn't seem to fear anything, except eating fish. And somehow she knew the absolute right way to do whatever random thing you were asking about.

Delores lived for making her family happy. She loved Corky and her family immensely. She spoiled her kids and any other children in her orbit, in particular her grandson Gregory. She was generous in spirit and in every other way. Holidays would feature an embarrassing abundance of gifts, food for an army, plus an invitation to join the celebration for anyone without family nearby. She thought nothing of hopping in the car and driving for hours to bring one of her kids soup, or help take care of Corky's mom. She was funny and smart and a great listener - a rare trio.

Delores will be missed terribly by her husband and kids and their families, not to mention all of her extended family, friends and colleagues. She was special and kind. And there could never be enough Delores Bogert in this world.

A memorial service will be held at a future date, when it is safe to gather again and hug and celebrate Delores.

Services Pending. Please check back for further information.
