Daniel McMillan of New Gretna, NJ, age 66, passed away Saturday, February 18, 2017. He was born in Glasgow, Scotland on October 12, 1950 to Jessie Nicol (Wilson) McMillan and the late Daniel McMillan.
Daniel emigrated from Scotland in 1958 to Waterloo, IA where he grew up. He graduated from West High School. Daniel joined the U.S. Navy in 1968 and made a career on nuclear submarines for 12 years. He graduated with honors in 1990 from the New Jersey Institute of Technology with a degree in mechanical engineering. Daniel worked at Oyster Creek Generator Corp. in Forked River, NJ. He later worked at the Nuclear Energy Institute in Washington D.C. as a training department director. Daniel returned home for the final 3 years prior to his retirement in 2013 as an Engineering Director at Oyster Creek where he dedicated 33 years of employment.
Daniel loved being on the water, specifically on sailboats and motorboats on the Barnegat Bay. He enjoyed coaching kids' soccer and traveling, especially with his family, with his favorite destinations being St. Thomas and the British Virgin Islands. Daniel found joy in going to Myrtle Beach to play golf, the Boardwalk in Ocean City, and Fager's Island in Maryland. His greatest joy was spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Daniel is survived by his wife of 46 years, Kay McMillan of New Gretna, NJ, son, Daniel McMillan III and his wife, Kim and their children, Justin and Jessica of Virginia Beach, VA, daughter, Jennifer McIntosh and her husband, Robert and their children, Layla and Lawson, of Egg Harbor Township, NJ, mother, Jessie McMillan of Spring Grove, IL, sister, June Hill-Male and her husband, Jonathan of Spring Grove, IL, three nephews: Jacob, James and Jesse, uncle, Harry McMillan and his wife, Elma in Canada and several cousins in Scotland.
A memorial service in Daniel's honor will be held at 1PM on Monday, February 27, 2017 at New Gretna Presbyterian Church, 19 S. Maple Ave., New Gretna, NJ 08224. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be may payable to "St. Jude Children's Hospital" and sent in care of R.T. Foard Funeral Home, P.A., P.O. Box 248, Rising Sun, MD 21911.
