Charles E. Connon, 81, of Newark, DE, passed away January 23, 2012 at Delaware Hospice Center.

Born in Philadelphia, PA on March 8, 1930, Charlie was the son of the late Charles E. and Margaretta Bailey Connon. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in the Korean War. Charlie was an officer in Teamsters Union Local 326. He was an avid reader, Phillies fan, and enjoyed riding his motorcycle, golfing and sailing. He was a friend of Bill W. for 44 years. He liked speed and he drove a race car when he was 68 at Dover Downs and he skydived in celebration of his 70th birthday.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Ann Connon; two sons, Samuel Leonard Connon of Olympia, WA, and Charles David Connon of West Chester, PA.; seven daughters, Catherine Elizabeth DeGazzelle of Yorklyn, DE, Patience Ann Connon of Kansas City, MO, Nanette Willgruber of King of Prussia, PA, Bridget Ann Sneddon of Monrovia, MD, Kelly Ann Sundberg of Mt. Vernon, WA, Kerry Ann Patrick of Rising Sun, MD, Kimberly Ann Stout of Sedro Woolley, WA and 24 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his sister Virginia Louise Kroner and his brother Clifford Connon.

A celebration of Charlie's life will be held at R.T. Foard & Jones Funeral Home, 122 West Main St., Newark, DE 19711 on Saturday January 28, 2012 at 1:00 p.m.with a visitation beginning at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be private.
