Bessie Isabelle Cregger of Rising Sun (formerly Conowingo), MD passed away peacefully on March 21, 2013 at Calvert Manor Healthcare Center, with loved ones by her side. She was born on October 29, 1920 in Little Britain, PA, one of eleven children born to the late Roman and Ethel (Dawson) McVey.
Bessie worked in the food service industry as a cook at Woodside Diner in Conowingo, MD. She had previously been employed by Sun Cleaners in Rising Sun, MD. "Miss Bess", as she was known, was an avid bingo player, and would attend games throughout the area. In her spare time, Bessie enjoyed tending to her flowers and lawn.
She is survived by her daughters, Anna L. Stuart (Charles) of New Providence, PA and Doris Tackett of Peach Bottom, PA; brothers, Arnold McVey of Ohio, Carl McVey of Peach Bottom, PA, Donald McVey of New Providence, PA and Norman McVey of Nottingham, PA; sister Linda Brown of Nottingham, PA; grandchildren, Denise M. Lindsey of Oxford, PA, Ann Marie Cregger of Aberdeen, MD, Donna Davis of Port Deposit, MD and Michael Stuart, Sr. of Nottingham, PA; 12 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, Bessie is proceeded in death by her loving husband Rufus Cregger; sisters, Edna Haley, Leta Mellinger and Maude Styer; brothers, Arthur McVey and James Robert McVey and grandchildren Jackie Cornett and Monica Tackett.
A Celebration of her life will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, March 26, 2013 at R.T. Foard Funeral Home, P.A., 111 S. Queen Street, Rising Sun, MD 21911 where friends may visit one hour prior.
