Bernice Elizabeth Harris of Newark, DE, age 82, passed away on Thursday, January 14, 2021. Bernice was born on February 6, 1938 in Wilmington, DE to the late Joseph McMichael Harris and Edna Grace (Marden) Harris.

Bernice graduated from Wilmington High School in 1956. She served in the US Air Force from 1961-1963. She worked for Bell Telephone as a surveyor and retired after 30 years of service. Bernice enjoyed watching the Food Network and HGTV. She also had lunch every Wednesday at Deerhead Hotdog on Maryland Avenue and was immensely proud of her "perfect attendance". She was involved with the "Sit & Stitch" group that meets at Newark Senior Center where she crocheted hundreds of blankets, beanies and other items that were donated to the Linus Project, the Neonatal Unit at Christiana Hospital and the Breast Cancer Walk, respectively. This past Veterans Day, Bernice received a certificate from Churchman's Village, where she lived, recognizing her military service. She was the first woman to receive the award at the facility. She attended St Mark's Methodist Church on Limestone Road, Wilmington, DE.

Bernice is survived by her brother, Joseph "Mike" Harris (Carrie) of Leesburg, FL; sister, Josephine Ballew (Buddy) of Woodlyn Hills, CA and sister, Rhoda Harris of Virginia. In addition to her parents, Bernice is preceded in death by her sister, Irene Skibicki; sister, Sallie Swales and brother, Carl Harris.

Services will be held privately at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Seasons Hospice, 100 Commerce Drive, Suite 302, Newark, DE 19713 or Project Linus, Northern Delaware Chapter, Coordinator Brenda Robinson, Post Office Box 1548, Belton, MO 64012.
