Barry DeVita, age 70, passed away at Chester County Hospital on Thursday, February 7, 2013. Barry was born in Reading, Pennsylvania on March 20, 1942.
Barry loved music; he formed and played in a rock and roll band as a lead singer and guitarist in the early 60's. He also wrote and copyrighted two songs. He served in the US Air Force for six years. He was an accomplished writer and many of his writings were published. Barry helped with the invention of the first personal office computer (Exxon). He was an amateur mineralogist and astronomer, and he was business partners with his wife Linda. As an ordained minister in the Universal Life Church, he performed several weddings for his beloved family. Barry loved to travel, and has been all over the world. With all these accomplishments his best accomplishment was being the best dad and grandfather in the world.
He is survived by his son, Barry DeVita Jr and wife Catalina of Hatboro, PA; daughter Gretchen Spears and husband Micah of Landenberg, PA; brother Bruce DeVita and wife Jennifer of Layfayette, NJ; father Silvio DeVita of Toms River, NJ; grandchildren Amanda and Andrew DeVita, Isabelle and Lilianna Spears, Steven Blackburn; and son-in-law Steve Blackburn.
Barry was preceded by his wife Linda DeVita, daughter Carol Blackburn and mother Carmella DeVita (Masser).
A memorial service will be held 6PM on Monday, February 11, 2013 at R.T. Foard & Jones Funeral Home, 122 W. Main St., Newark DE 19711. Friends and family may visit two hours prior. Memorial contributions can be made to Plumpton Park zoo c/o the funeral home.
