Obituary for Barbara Ann Hendricks

July 21, 1949 - March 30, 2021
Elkton, Maryland | Age 71

B-Mom, a retired Hospice Nurse, wife, mother, grandmother, lover of turtles, SciFi, magical creatures, angels; theatre patron and traveler took her final journey on March 30, 2021, following complications from a tragic auto accident. Barbara was born on July 21, 1949 in Philadelphia, PA to the late Thomas Arthur and Lena Shipman Dintaman.

Barbara completed an LPN in 1983, she returned to school and received a B.S. in nursing in 1997 at the University of Delaware and found her calling in hospice and palliative care. She worked for Heartland Hospice, Odyssey Healthcare and finished her career with Compassionate Care Hospice. Her warmth, empathy and selfless desire to see others end their time in peace and dignity motivated her every day. Barbara's retirement years were devoted to admiring the growth of her grandsons, Jack and Cannon, and experiencing the world. Her travels fell short of completing a lifetime quest to visit all National Park sites, but trips to 256 of 423 sites resulted in unexpected adventures. International travel in the retirement years was accelerating until this past years' pause, and she was able to visit 38 countries, highlighted with three trips to Ireland. She and her husband, Jerry were also avid theater and concert patrons, primarily Celtic music, and subscribed to five series seeing approximately 50 shows a year.

Her final days were spent with Seasons Hospice, where she was treated by Kaitlin, a music therapist who sang her several lovely Celtic songs, and she took her last breath as "Danny Boy" concluded. A very fitting, peaceful ending.

Barbara is survived by her husband, Jerry; daughters, Erinn (Jason) Breitigan, Jessica (Jay) Huss, and Annie Hendricks; brother, Thomas (Nina) Dintaman and sisters, Elaine Ferguson and Alice Snyder.

Services for Barbara will be held privately and her cremated remains will be interred at Sharp's Cemetery in Fair Hill, MD. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to "The Grand Opera House" and sent in care to R.T. Foard & Jones Funeral Home, 122 W. Main Street, Newark, DE 19711.
