Obituary for Arthur Franklin Steinhauer

September 7, 1947 - March 10, 2021
Conowingo, Maryland | Age 73

Arthur Franklin Steinhauer, age 73, of Conowingo, MD, passed away on March 10, 2021. He was born in Philadelphia, PA on September 7, 1947 to the late Elmer and Alberta (Davis) Steinhauer.

Art had many passions, but none as important as his family. Art loved the outdoors. He enjoyed hunting small and large game. Over the years he got to go on many hunting adventures out in Colorado, up to a hunting and fishing camp in Vermont, and many weekends tracking deer in Pennsylvania. He enjoyed all disciplines of recreational shotgun sports. He spent many years as a member of the Oxford Gun Club and enjoyed spending time with his buddies shooting. His true passion was fishing. He loved catching all kinds of fish. Whether it was fishing for trout in the small ponds and streams in Maryland, rockfish in the Susquehanna, his yearly fishing trips in Canada, or catching big pike in Maine. His knowledge for the sport was immense and his real joy came from teaching others all that he knew. He enjoyed nothing more than watching his family, mostly his wife Phylis, catch more fish than he did.

Art was very patriotic. Art served in the Army from1967 to 1970 including one tour in Vietnam. Sergeant Steinhauer's near perfect photographic memory and gift to gab served him well and he made several lifetime friends.

Art was a provider and looked forward to time spent with family every Sunday for dinner. He enjoyed telling stories of his life. The house was always filled with love and lots of laughter. The dinner was never complete without him letting Willie know how much he loved her cooking with his famous line "This food is banging". He truly cherished the time spent with his loved ones no matter what he was doing.

Art is survived by his beloved wife of thirty-five years, Phylis Steinhauer; six children: Richard Weber and his fiancé, Megan McCrum, Chris Weber, Eric Weber and his wife, Jessica, Lynn Steinhauer, Arthur Steinhauer, and Thomas Steinhauer; thirteen grandchildren; one great-grandson; and five siblings: Paul Steinhauer and his wife, Margaret Mary, Julia Brown her husband, Dennis, Melanie Drennan, David Steinhauer, and Jamie Steinhauer and his wife, Beth.
