Obituary

Ann K. Kennard, age 92 of Newark, DE passed away on September 1, 2018 surrounded by her family. She was born on March 12, 1926 in Philadelphia, PA to the late William L. Koehler and Beulah B. (Hicks) Koehler. She was raised in Drexel Hill, PA.

After graduating from Upper Darby High School in 1944 Ann attended Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in Wilmington, Delaware and became a Registered Nurse in 1947. Her career path led her to the love of her life, Raymond "Bud" Kennard where they met at the hospital when she was nursing his mother back to health. Ann and Bud married in 1949 and soon started their family.

Ann volunteered at the Blood Bank Delmarva Blood Bank for over 25 years and was an active member of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church where she was a member of their choir. Ann and her family enjoyed traveling the quiet back roads of Lancaster County, PA and taking trips to Williamsburg, VA and Florida. She enjoyed baking, reading, watching sports (especially the Philadelphia Phillies) and tending to her flower garden. Christmas was Ann's favorite holiday and she loved being with her family during this time. She also loved her kitty cats whom were a part of her family.

Ann is survived by her husband of 69 years, Raymond "Bud" Kennard of Newark, DE; children: Christine Hancock (Doug) of Newark, DE, Carol Missimer (Brad) of Cocoa, FL, and Mark Kennard of Kennett Square, PA; three grandchildren: Kara Kennard and Devon Kennard of Nashville, TN (and their mother Nancy Boyd of Spencer, NC), Brent Hancock of Newark, DE; one great grandson, Jonathan Hancock of Newark, DE; niece and caregiver, Jane Koehler of Newark, DE; and caregiver, Diana Nichols of Newark, DE.
