Obituary for Albert Louis Luff

June 27, 1927 - October 8, 2016
Chesapeake City, Maryland | Age 89

Albert Louis Luff, of Chesapeake City, MD, passed away on October 8, 2016. He was born, one of eleven children, on June 27, 1927 in Lincoln University, PA to the late Arley and Elsie Walls Luff.

He worked as a young man in a grocery store in the Oxford area and graduated from Oxford High school in 1945. He then joined the Army Air Corps and served in Japan during the Japanese Occupation.

After leaving the service, he returned to the Oxford area where he worked at several jobs and married Ella Nieweg in 1950. He and Ella then moved to the Chesapeake City and operated the Cameron's Snack Bar luncheonette on Main Street in Elkton.

In 1953, Albert became a life insurance salesman in the tri state area. As the family grew, in 1956, he and Ella moved to a small farm just outside Chesapeake City where he could raise his family and horses.

After retiring from the insurance business in 1985, Albert worked for Chesapeake Publishing Company. He first worked to set up Cecil Whig's home delivery service, and then became a courier delivering publications throughout the tri state area. He retired in 2007 from the newspaper business. Albert was also the custodian for Trinity United Methodist Church for 30 years, where he was a lifelong member, and also a member of the local VFW.
In addition to being an avid horseman who raised and rode quarter horses, Albert loved gardening and hunting. He enjoyed taking members of his extended family out on the Chester River for a day of trotline crabbing. He was able to take very special trips to dude ranches throughout the US with each of his children. With a keen and sharp memory, he was quite the Civil War buff. His love of singing was exhibited at church, other functions, and most lovingly to his wife, children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

Albert is survived by his wife of 66 years, Ella Nieweg Luff, his children: Brad Luff, Doug Luff and wife Connie, Carol Biggs and husband Gary, Kathy Vaughan and husband Dale, Matt Luff and wife Sheri, Nancy Nickerson and husband Jeff. He is also survived by sixteen grandchildren; Daniel Luff, Kimberly Perkins, Brian Luff, Amanda Laurintsen, Alicia Luff, Alexander Luff, Sean Seither, Andrew Seither, William Vaughan, Eric Luff, Joseph Nickerson, Marissa Wheeler, Samuel Nickerson, and Matthew Nickerson, eight great grandchildren; his sister, Catherine Viars and his lifelong friend Joe Chamberlain.

In addition to his parents and siblings, he was preceded in death by his grandsons Joshua Luff and Timmy Nickerson.

A Life Celebration will be held at 10Am on Thursday, October 13, 2016 at Trinity United Methodist Church, 450 Third Street, Chesapeake City, MD 21915.
